Description:   

Learn the components of information technology and how they are organized, developed and managed; how technology affects your audit responsibilities; and the guidelines governing audits performed under the Government Auditing Standards. This course, or equivalent, is the prerequisite for all other technology-related courses offered in our auditing curriculum. The information systems audit process is presented in Information Systems Auditing (AUDT8029G).

Who Should Attend:   

New auditors and experienced auditors with limited exposure to the subject matter. Level: Foundation.

Instructor(s): Chambers Glen: Glen D. Chambers has over 20 years of experience in auditing information systems at some of the largest Department of Defense contractors in the country. B.A., business/economics, Slippery Rock State College, Slippery Rock, PA, 1978. Mr. Chambers' information technology (IT) auditing experience has included detailed reviews in areas such as internal controls, cost allocations/job accounting systems, economy and efficiency reviews and computer performance evaluations. Because of his diversified background within DCAA, he was called upon numerous times to guest instruct various EDP audit related courses at the Defense Contract Audit Institute (DCAI) in Memphis, TN. From 1982 to 1999, he co-instructed various specialized courses at DCAI including EDP for Managers, JCL and COBOL for Auditors, Risk Assessment and Internal Controls and EDP General and Application Controls. In 1998, Mr. Chambers participated in the rewrite of agency internal control audit programs and supporting technical guidance to address general and application controls in the information systems environment. Over the last 22 years he has gained extensive experience in designing and developing training programs and workshops for various organizational elements within DCAA, other DOD components and various groups from the contractor community. Mr. Chambers is a certified information systems auditor and is an active member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.,

Instructor(s): Hoshall Paul: Mr. Hoshall has over 40 years of extensive audit experience, with over 24 years directing IT reviews, audits and technical support. Prior to founding Hoshall Associates in September 2001, he was senior manager and director of the IT Division at Brown & Company CPAs, PLLC. He previously served as director of the IT Audit and Technical Support Divisions in the Offices of Inspector General of the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Transportation. He created, staffed and directed both information technology audit divisions and technical support staffs in both Departments, as well as supervising the design, development, and operation of an integrated Management Information System at the Department of Transportation.
